HISTORY OF CHILD PRESCHOOLS
CHILD was the pioneer Indian NGO in preschool education and preschool teacher training. CHILD’s involvement in preschool dates back to 1984 when it established the first kindergarten in Kampung Kayu Ara, Kuala Lumpur with assistance from the Canadian Government for Indian children from working class background. Subsequently CHILD expanded its network of preschools and in the late 80’s it had over 120 preschool classes located in estates and urban squatter areas and trained more than 100 preschool teachers to run the preschools.
PRESCHOOL (EARLY CHILDHOOD LEARNING)
Preschool education mould the children to provide a head – start by instilling confidence to pursue their primary school education. Confidence comes about when the child is able to read, write and count after attending preschool education. CHILD has been conducting Preschool Education for the last 41 years. It is the pioneer in the conduct of Tamil preschool education in the country. The aim is to provide affordable, fun-learning preschool education to the children of working class background and create opportunities for the children to discover themselves. More than 20,000 preschool children (ages 4-6) have benefitted from the programme since its inception in 1984. Currently, CHILD has 50 preschools in the states of Johor, Kedah, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Pulau Pinang, Perak and Selangor.
